Marjorie Elaine Jacques

December 29, 1915 — November 21, 2014

Marjorie Elaine Reed Puckett Jacques, 98, of Brinkley died Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, at Brinkley. She was born Dec. 29, 1915, at Milford, Missouri, to Chester A. Arthur Reed and Leona Kirkendall Reed, a young southeast Kansas farming couple who had moved to Missouri to improve their fortune, but soon returned to the rural homestead near Peru, Kansas, where Marjorie, her four brothers and one sister would be raised. A graduate of Peru High School and a licensed cosmetologist, she married Burgess Puckett in January 1939 at Sedan, Kansas. To the couple were born sons Madison, Herbert, Michael (who died in infancy), Bryan Keith, and David, and twin daughters Jean and June, who died at birth. Burgess Puckett died Sept. 3, 1957. In September 1959, she married Thomas S. Jacques, an Arkansas native, at Wichita, Kansas. Their son, Thomas S. Jacques II was born July 31, 1962, at Caldwell, Kansas, where they owned and operated a bakery for a number of years. In 1971, the family returned to T.S. Jacques' hometown of Nashville, Arkansas, where he "retired" to raise cattle, with Marjorie taking an active role in the farm operations and maintaining the home. She would also serve as a Nashville Elementary School cafeteria employee for many years. T.S. Jacques died March 13, 1985. She was raised in the Christian Church and became an active member of Chapel Hill Church of Christ at Nashville. She loved her church, her family, and her neighbors and friends. Health issues required her to move to Brinkley in August 2010 where she was a Cla-Clif Nursing & Rehabilitation Center resident. Survivors include sons, Madison Puckett of Nashville, Herbert Puckett of Wichita, Kansas, Bryan Keith Puckett of Nashville, and Thomas Jacques and his wife, Katie, of Brinkley; and grandchildren Zealand and Sarah Jacques, both of Brinkley. Survivors also include the daughter of husband T.S., Carol Cook of Albuquerque, her children, Terry, Karen, Patty, and Jay, and their families; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends for whom she cared deeply. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Leona Reed; brothers Chester, Charles, Ward, and Doyle; sister Martha; her first and second husbands, Burgess Puckett and T.S. Jacques; sons David Puckett and Michael Puckett, infant daughters Jean and June Puckett; daughters-in-law Lynnet Puckett and Wanda Puckett; and granddaughter Clara Ellen Jacques. Services were held 2:00 PM Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville, Arkansas, with burial following at Restland Memorial Park in Nashville.
