Monroe Stuart of Ozan, AR, passed away on Thursday November 19, 2015 in Nashville. He was born on January 18,1926 in Ozan, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Ossie and Nannie Fletcher Stuart and, first wife Maxine Stuart. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Propps Stuart of Ozan, AR. and sister Nelle Thomason (Jack Thomason deceased) of Hampton, AR., and numerous nieces and nephews. Monroe graduated from Nashville High School in 1943. He was a farmer of cotton, soybeans, and cattle. He operated the first mechanical cotton picker in south Arkansas. He was a former board member of the Farm Bureau and Production Credit Association. Monroe served as a rural mail carrier for 38 years. He helped to organize the Ozan Volunteer Fire Department and served as Fire Chief for many years. He was a board member of the St. Paul's Cemetery Association and was recently recognized for his 61 years of service for maintaining the cemetery. Monroe was a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church of Ozan, AR, and recently was attending Immanuel Baptist Church in Nashville, AR. Monroe's caring nature and outgoing personality made him well known and liked throughout Howard and Hempstead Counties. Visitation will be at Latimer Funeral Home Sunday November 22, 2015, from 1:30 until service time. Services will be 3:00 P.M., Sunday November 22, at the Latimer Funeral Home Chapel in Nashville. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home.
