Carolyn Smith Busby, age 79, of Nashville, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, October 15, 2026. She was born at Buck Range on February 3, 1947.
Carolyn spent many years working at Quality Shoe Store in downtown Nashville. She later worked at Poulan before opening her own daycare in her home, where she lovingly cared for children. She loved spending time outdoors in her yard, taking great pride in her flowers and landscaping. She also enjoyed watching the birds, finding joy in the simple beauty of nature. Carolyn was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended until she was no longer able to travel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Ellen Smith of Saratoga; her brother, Lawrence Smith of Mineral Springs; and her beloved husband married October 27, 1981 of 44 years, Bruman “Jerry” Busby, who passed away just under four months before her.
Carolyn leaves behind four children: Tyra and Gary Hughes of Nashville; Jeremy and Stacey Busby of Nashville; Michael Funderburke of Lockesburg; and James and Marcie Busby of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Todd and Kathryn Hughes; Abbie and Tom Hughes; Kristen and Deven Cupstid of Maumelle; and Brayden Funderburke of Conway.
Her legacy continues through her five great-grandchildren: Cooper and Kip Cogburn of Nashville; and Madilynn and Melany Hughes and Baylee Smith of Nashville.
Carolyn also leaves behind a very special dog, Katie, and two very special ladies who lovingly cared for her, Holly Stewart and Ambe Benson.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary at Liberty Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. under the pavilion, with burial at Liberty Baptist Cemetery.
Carolyn will be lovingly remembered for her caring heart, her love for her family, and the beauty she brought to the world around her. Whether tending to her flowers, enjoying the birds in her yard, or spending time with Katie, she found happiness in the things she loved. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created and the love she shared will forever remain in the hearts of her family and all who knew her.
