Grant Cleveland Gatliff

Delight

Grant Cleveland Gatliff, known to his friends and family as “G.C.”, age 95 of Delight,

AR, passed away Monday, April 27, 2026. He was born July 6, 1930 at Shawmut, AR.

Grant was the oldest of six children born to Fletcher and Nina Gatliff of Delight.

A graduate of Delight High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy immediately after

graduating, serving Honorably for 27 years as an aircraft structural mechanic,

achieving the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. His service spanned both the

Korean and Vietnam War eras where his various assignments aboard Naval ships

took him around the world, including overseas duty stations, and eventually on the

West Coast to California where he met and married his wife, Marcia. Following his

retirement from the Navy they returned permanently to his childhood home of

Arkansas.

Grant can best be described as being passionately patriotic; standing tall to honor

our flag, respecting our country and those wearing the uniform in service to our

nation. He was a voracious reader with an insatiable passion for westerns and

history. Grant was very energetic and remained active well into his 80’s competing

as a highly valued league member in his favorite past time of bowling. He and

Marcia both enjoyed the competition with friends that took them all over Arkansas

and surrounding states as well. They loved to travel and Grant often boasted of

visiting every state in America, with the exception of Minnesota.

Grant was preceded in death by his parents, Fletcher and Nina Gatliff; brother,

Donald Lee Gatliff; sisters, Galaskia Gatliff, Celesta Bean and Sharon Culbertson.

Also preceding him in death was his wife of 57 years, Marcia ; step-son, Benjamin

Salter III; and sister-in-law, Faydean Gatliff.

Grant is survived by one sister, Carolyn Lamkin and husband, Travis of Stephens, AR;

step-sons, Bruce Salter and wife Debbie of California; Doug Salter and wife Sharon

of Delight; step daughter,  Luna Dove of O'Brian, OR; brother-in-law, Bob Culbertson of Paris, TX; plus, a host of nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren.
