Hollis Elder Reed

Hollis Elder Reed, 88, of Nashville, Arkansas passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 2, 2026, in Dierks, Arkansas. He was born on January 18, 1938, to the late Reuben and Donie Reed.

Mr. Reed had many hobbies that he enjoyed during his lifetime. He was an avid outdoorsmen, gardener, and horseman. In the fall, you would typically find him in the woods. In the spring and summer, he would be in the garden. He was well known for the wonderful garden he grew and always shared his bounties with neighbors. He always prided himself on the corn he grew. For many years, Mr. Reed also enjoyed driving horse-drawn wagons and going on trail rides around Nathan.

Music was also a true passion for Mr. Reed. He would get together with friends to play and sing. At one time he even recorded a song on a record with a friend. Mr. Reed also loved to lead singing at the Nathan Church of Christ where he was a longtime faithful member.

Hollis never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His goal was to make you smile or laugh. Mr. Reed always had great stories to tell, even if they were just that, stories.

Mr. Reed’s most prized possession was his family, especially when it came to his granddaughter. His favorite place to spend time with them was at the family cabin, where they would get together and cook meals that always included fried potatoes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Hazel Sharp, Dessie Sharp, Alva Anderson, Bessie Jo Anderson, Ruby Kelm, Gracie Westfall, and one brother, Perry Reed.

Mr. Reed is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Joyce Sweeden Reed, one son, Wade Reed and wife Carla, one daughter Stacey Jamison and husband Gary, and one granddaughter, Codie McAlister and husband Tanner. Mr. Reed also leaves behind one sister, Dorthy Davis, and numerous nieces and nephews and friends, and all his beloved dogs.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville.

Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 in the Latimer Funeral Chapel in Nashville with Danny White officiating. Interment will follow in Academy Cemetery, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home of Nashville.
