Janice Ann McGalliard

Janice Ann “Jan” (Jackson) McGalliard, 80, of Delight, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2026, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She was born July 15, 1946, in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Coy Ely “Tootsie” and Evelyn Dickerson Jackson.

Jan was a member of Bowen Community Church and a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was also passionate about preserving the history of the community she called home.

A founding member of the Pike County Archives and Historical Society, Jan served as an officer, secretary, and co-editor of The Gems. She spent decades researching and preserving Pike County history and genealogy. When her children were young, family outings often included trips to cemeteries, where they helped chalk old headstones so names and dates could be read and recorded. Jan was always happy to help others trace their family history.

Jan was wonderfully creative. She could draw, crochet, cross-stitch, embroider, sew, and write a short story at a moment’s notice. Her children grew up wearing clothes she made, and they especially remember her homemade cinnamon rolls. As she grew older and her hands became less steady, she found another quiet pastime in watching birds.

In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Samuel McGalliard; one brother, James “Jimmy” Jackson; one sister, Susan Brock; and one brother-in-law, Woody Woodruff.

She is survived by three sons, David Rider of Arkadelphia, Billy Rider and wife Lisa of Gurdon, and Robby McGalliard and wife Jennifer of Delight; three daughters, Donna Morgan and husband Jerry of Fort Smith, Darla Nettles and husband Todd of Kilgore, Texas, and Debbie Wofford and husband Kenny of Murfreesboro; two sisters, Bettye Woodruff of Hermitage, Tennessee, and Carole Bratcher of Sulphur Springs, Texas; a very special sister-in-law, Pamie Sue Bevill of Nashville; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 24, at Latimer Funeral Home in Murfreesboro.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, at Delight Cemetery, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home in Murfreesboro.

Pallbearers will be Brett Ward, James Parks, Brandon Wofford, Cody Rider, and Josh Morgan. Honorary pallbearers will be John Parks, Noah McGalliard, Zach Morgan, Devin Garner, Tanner Garner, and Steve Humphry.
