John Raymond Doss, 81, of Delight, Ark., passed away peacefully Friday, May 27, 2022, at his Delight home.
Doss was born the youngest of five children on Aug. 16, 1940 in Delight to Lydia Sutton Doss and John Willis Doss.
He was a retired equipment operator in the timber industry. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, watching cooking shows, making and sharing homemade muscadine wine and deer summer sausage, riding in “The Hills” and spending time with his family and friends.
Doss was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gwendolyn (Horne) Doss, whom he married on Nov. 2, 1963 in Paris, Ark.; and four sisters: Peggy Miller, Ruth Crews, Daphene Kelly and Cora Dell Roberts.
He is survived by his son, John William “Bill” Doss and wife, Lisa, of Many, La.; daughter, Mary Balch and husband, John, of Murfreesboro; six grandchildren, John Christian “J.C” Doss (wife Jamie) and Sidney L. Doss, both of Delight; Sutton Balch of Conway, Ark.; Mary Grace Balch of Fort Smith, Ark.; Will Gloster of Madison, Wis., and Erin Gloster of Fayetteville, Ark.; and one great-grandson, John Lane Doss of Delight. Doss also leaves behind his sister-in-laws of more than 50 years - Jane Stevens of Bentonville, Ark., Sandy Morris and husband, James, of Rogers, Ark., and Deborah Sartain of Fairfield, Calif.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 29 at 6-8 p.m. at Latimer Funeral Home in Murfreesboro.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 30 at 1 p.m. at the Delight United Methodist Church with Jim Henderson officiating, followed by a burial at Shockey Cemetery (Shockey Cemetery Road, Norman, Ark.)
