Minor Tallant Chaney, age 79, of Murfreesboro, Arkansas passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at his home. He was born January 27, 1946, in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, the son of the late Erve and Mary Tallant Chaney.
Mr. Chaney was a member of First Christian Church in Murfreesboro. Minor enjoyed being a Gideon and loved disbursing Bible’s to area children and Air BnB’s for many years. He was a proud Army Veteran serving in the 1st Calvary Air Division where he was awarded an Air Medal and Purple Heart. He enjoyed being reunited with many of his Army Comrades after several years. Minor was a sheetrock finisher by trade working in this industry for 55 years and built many houses for his relatives and neighbors. He enjoyed the outdoors and hunting especially turkey hunting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Sherri Jean Chaney; two brothers James Ballard and wife Atha, JC Ballard; one sister Irene Price and husband Hall; sister-in-law Betty Blackwood and husband Bill; niece Marsha Molnaird; and nephew Mobie Price.
Survivors include his wife of sixty years Patsy Chaney of Murfreesboro; one son Dennis Chaney and wife Jill of Murfreesboro; two grandchildren James and Jacob Chaney that were the light of his life; one sister-in-law Georgia Ballard of Murfreesboro; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 15, at Latimer Funeral Home in Murfreesboro.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 16, at the First Christian Church in Murfreesboro, with Brian Doyle and Kevin Corcoran officiating, burial will follow in Kelley Cemetery under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home in Murfreesboro.
Pallbearers will be Randy Posey, Will Posey, Taylor Posey, Micah Brown, Kevin Gosnell, Jody Chaney, and Curt Beavert.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry Kizzia, Doug Brown, Stan Magg, Joe Burns, Kenneth Laird, and any of his Army Veteran comrades.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Gideons International, Howard County Children’s Center, or Kelley Cemetery.
