Sarah Jo Milner

On August 30, 2026 Sarah Jo Fontaine Milner departed this life to join her husband, JamesThomas Milner and other loved ones to await the resurrection by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was predeceased by both parents, Joseph Edward Fontaine and Lily Hopie Dossey Fontaine and brothers, Frank, Edward and Thomas Fontaine and sisters Hazel Fontaine and Catherine Fontaine Hilek.

Sarah became Christian early in her life and remained so through good and bad times. She attended high school at Saratoga, AR and then went to Harding College in Searcy, AR for a year before going to Dallas and working to support herself. During the time she worked for Braniff Airways, she traveled over all the continents except Antarctica, Africa and Australia. She enjoyed meeting people from different cultures and learning about everything good.

She attended Arlington State College, University of TX at Arlington, Tarrant County Junior College and took a few flying lessons and a course in aviation ground school at Meacham Field in Fort Worth, TX. She also bought Great Courses videos to learn more about favorite subjects; art, music, architecture and history. She left her work tracing the genealogy of her Fontaine family.

She loved to work, whether it was word processing jobs in her own secretarial service or working temporary assignments for many different companies from law offices to the builder of toll roads and bridges. She restored antiques, did many different arts and crafts, loved mowing grass with her tractor mower, growing flowers and the design and building of small structures including her last residence.

Only the veterinarians who treated her dogs and cats over the years know the large number of abandoned and abused animals she rescued for a better, longer life. She enjoyed helping people, sharing the blessings God had given her.

She credits her long life to God who gave her several extensions when she faced eminent death and He intervened. One was when a large fuel leak on the TWA jet crossing the Atlantic from London, England to New York City was forced to make an emergency landing at Gander Newfoundland. Another time was when one of engines on the DC-7 plane caught fire and one on the other side was shut down while flying over the Andes Mountains in South America. When she was 80, while crossing a parking lot at Lowe’s, a truck ran a stop sign and hit her wheelchair, knocking her onto the pavement away from the wheel but crushed the wheelchair. Faith carried her through many difficult and dangerous situations and she always praised God for the times He denied giving her what she prayed for, but in his wisdom, gave her something better.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 4, 2026 at Saratoga Cemetery, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home of Nashville.
